Focus is the antithesis of the modern-day approach to success. I wonder if the slower lifestyle of many people during the pandemic has helped with an awareness that in fact we are better off when we focus, not when we attempt to juggle 25 balls at once.
Sure, life demands a balancing act, but we can choose to focus on one thing at a time.
Maybe it’s one project at a time, or it’s one central goal for your business for the next 90 days. Perhaps it’s a theme for a day of the week if you work for yourself – one day is marketing, another is client meetings, another is research.
If you are juggling multiple projects at work, carve out designated time for each one. Even when you have 3 projects going, you can focus on one at a time.
Put the technology away for 1 hour and give a kid undivided attention.
It sounds so simple, yet we don’t do it. The brain works optimally when it focuses, rather than having to quickly hop back and forth. Frequent shifts tire out your brain, and you don’t want that for creating more success!
Using a white board or a desk calendar where you can easily see all that you have scheduled is useful for the brain.
The main thing is, allow yourself to say no to intrusions or distractions, find that you are more productive, and STOP measuring your value by the number of balls you have in the air.
