Your Relationship with Money

I wasn't truly interested in the topic of money until recently.

From a place of relative comfort - I have enough, and

from a place of judgement and guilt - wanting lots of money is greedy, people are starving…

What I thought was the moral high ground was in part limiting possibilities.

I also unconsciously fell into a common female trap of social conditioning which says, it's not yours to worry about.  Purposeful choices were made with no regrets and at the same time, the unconscious was running in the background. This is so counter to my feminist values, it's a bit painful to admit.

I now see all of this thinking for what it is, and the good thing is, it's changeable.

What's your story - generational, gender based, cultural, familial or community based - that shapes your money beliefs?

It likely runs deep - grooves in your psyche etched in place over time. Money beliefs can go way back to early childhood.

What implicit or explicit messages did your parents or role models pass on to you?

Mine were around frugality, caution, and the idea that education is where money is to be spent. While I'm grateful for those lessons and opportunities, they also held me back from seeing the good in money.

Since we live a created life ( now backed by neuroscience which shows us the brain continues to be malleable ), I decided to become more conscious of this topic and change my beliefs.

Questions that help me and my clients:

What are your past beliefs about money?

What do you want to believe going forward?

What's possible if you are open and curious about how to make more money?

We are literally creating our lives in every moment, so what will you create this year?

If you make more money than you think you need or than you previously thought you'd make, where in the world could you create more ( fill in the blank) in order to contribute to the world?

If money has not been a driver for you, what would be possible going forward if you created a new way of relating to money?

My new motto is:  The money I make is a direct reflection of the service I provide.

Lynne Twist’s The Soul of Money was transformational for me. If your relationship to money is on your mind, I highly recommend it. Read it for your own insights, not focused on her, rather on you. It is a beautiful account of her work fundraising, building nonprofits and fostering an abundant mindset, even in parts of the world with the scarcest of resources.

The author says,

“This book is about finding a new freedom, truth, and joy in our relationship with money, whatever our circumstances. And it's about awakening and using the unexamined portal of our relationship with money to deliver a widespread transformation in all aspects of our life. Ultimately, it's a pathway to personal and financial freedom.”

Consider this my invitation to you to open up to a new, expanded relationship with money.

If this resonates with you, I'd love to hear about it!

To your wealth,

Ellie
